[Solved] OO 4.1.0 on Mac OS X ten.6.8

Bug installing under the Mac OSX - X11 - Aqua

[Solved] OO 4.one.0 on Mac Os X 10.6.8

After receiving notification of the availability of Open Part 4.ane.0, in which it was stated that the update was suitable for Mac OS X 10.3 onwards, I downloaded the relevant file … noting that it stated:
"Download Apache OpenOffice 4.1.0
Click here to download (hosted past Sourceforge.net) for:
Mac OS Ten (10.half dozen or older) and English (British) | ~159 MByte | Released: 2014-April-29".

However when I attempted to run the instal, a message was displayed indicating that this could not proceed as my version of Mac Bone X was not suitable - I run Os X 10.6.8.

OO 4.ane does _not_ work on Mac 10.6.eight. You need to return to 4.0.one; please download it again from this link:

Do does this mean that Snowfall Leopard is no longer supported? Is 4.0.1 the cease of the line?

It seems rather odd that a Coffee application should be so dependent on operating system version.

In any case, if 4.0.1 is the cease of the line, information technology would be nice if I didn't see messages telling me to upgrade.

Unless you have a rather old Mac, you lot tin first upgrade to Mavericks (10.9); information technology'south costless from Apple. And so you can install AOO releases beyond iv.1.0. If you can't/don't upgrade Os X, and so you lot're probably stuck until y'all buy new hardware. Check Mac resources on the spider web if y'all demand assistance determining if you can upgrade, or if you demand help installing Mavericks.

If this answered your question please become to your outset post apply the Edit button and add [Solved] to the showtime of the title. You lot tin can select the greenish checkmark icon at the aforementioned time.

From the release notes at

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/dis ... ease+Notes

"Annotation: Mac users should exist aware that with this release Apache OpenOffice is a 64-chip application and requires Mac OSX 10.vii or to a higher place."

It seems rather odd that a Java application should exist and then dependent on operating system version.

Apache OpenOffice is not a Java application.

In whatsoever case, if 4.0.one is the finish of the line, it would be nice if I didn't see messages telling me to upgrade.

Both the release notes (come across higher up) and the system requirements,

http://www.openoffice.org/dev_docs/sour ... aoo41.html

, state that Mac OS 10 ten.7 (Lion) or college is required.

Although my hardware can run King of beasts, Lion is a pig (compared to Snow Leopard) and even if it wasn't I *detest* the interface changes. Much of that was stock-still in Mountain Lion, just my hardware can't run that.

I've been planning to upgrade for a while now, but honestly, with an SSD and maxed out RAM my MacBook Pro (two,i) is still more than than adequate. I am besides one of the few people who seems to similar a 17" laptop whatsoever more, and I am not terribly interested in shelling out for a new machine until I absolutely have to if it means downgrading to a 15" screen.

I've got to say that I'k actually sad that just when Open up Part starts to go truly usable I can't run the latest version any more.

So but keep using the version of Apace OpenOffice that y'all accept. It is much more recent than your computer and operating arrangement. I am happy using an older version on my 2nd computer, a MacBook running Snow Leopard.

I use Snow Leopard because I *adopt* it, non considering I like running old software. Snow Leopard is light and fast, faster than annihilation that came before information technology and faster than anything that has come up since. I actually don't like what happened with the iOS-ification of Bone/X and I have yet to find a single characteristic in newer versions that makes me desire to upgrade.

Open up Role, on the other manus, has seen substantial improvements in every release and Information technology has only been rather recently that I've considered it truly usable (although I accept been using it since it was called Star Function...)

If this is really the end, *PLEASE* discover a manner to stop the bloody abrasive pop-ups that keep telling me to upgrade.

I wonder about this.
I have OS x.six.8 on my MacBook Pro from 2009 and I e'er thought this is a 64 Bit machine, I withal think it.
And then I don't understand why OO iv.1 doesn't run on it, both 64 Bit.
Why?

Because AOO 4.1 requires OS X ver.10.7 or newer. It won't run on older versions of OS X.

AOO iv.1 requires Os X ver.10.7 or newer. The operating arrangement requirement is independent from it beingness a 64 chip app. Many current applications for Macs require Bone Ten ver.seven or newer.

No, I didn't understand your answer because I read in the General Remarks of the AOO 4.1 Release notes this sentence:

Note: Mac users should be aware that with this release Apache OpenOffice is a 64-bit application and requires Mac OSX 10.7 or above.

I read this like this: Equally information technology is a 64-flake application it requires Mac Bone 10.7. This is the thing I don't understand. Bone x.6 is 64-scrap every bit well, I don't understand the logic in this remark.

The underlying routines in the earlier operating arrangement don't suit the current version of OpenOffice. If y'all have knowledge of Mac OSes, the OpenOffice software source code is available and y'all might patch it to adapt your operating system. I'g certain in that location volition be OpenOffice programmer aid available should you decide to do this.
